Why Use Powell Painting?
Tanja has created a team of professionals who specifically specialize in interior painting.
Each home starts with protection! As soon as we begin an interior project, we ensure all protection methods are in place such as:
Then comes the sanding and dust clean-up.
This all happens before we open a paint can!
Our next step is to fully sand the walls before and between coats. We will check again with the trouble light after the first coat to ensure your home looks as new as possible.
We use elastomeric caulking to ensure minimal shrinkage through seasonal weather change.
We work from the top down ... ceilings, crown and casings, walls and the sills along with baseboards. Upon completion we will do a thorough clean up of all paper and plastic for recycling.
Just as for interiors, we also have a specific team in place that specializes in exterior painting. Here is our usual procedure for external paint jobs:
First we pressure wash to remove any mildew and loose paint. The pressure washer helps to loosen more paint and make the home ready for scraping, feather sanding, spot priming and then filling ... or painting ... it depends on the level of prep approved by the client.
For exterior caulking, our standard product used is Big Stretch.
Before we paint, we use specific primers to protect the preparation of each individual surface.
A combination of products and brands are selected for each individual home specific for their needs. We only use thoroughly tested products on the market before we recommend them for your home.
Once caulking is cured, priming is complete, and all the prep is done we finally get to paint!
What you need to know about pressure washing...
We request from you prior to pressure washing that all landscaping around the home be trimmed back to give us clear access to the home surface. You will also need to move all items away from the home.
The morning of pressure washing, make sure all windows and doors are closed tightly. We encourage you to be home or allow us access to inside to check for any water leakage.
Our goal when pressure washing is to climb ladders and work from above to avoid forcing water up through your siding and causing damage.
Decks and our Powell Deck Finishing System
Restoring and redoing decks is the most difficult part of any home to maintain and takes more processes than many expect to make sure they are done right and last a long time. Decks are one of our specialties and have spent the past 7 years working on the "Powell Deck Finishing System!"
We recommend leaving decks as natural as possible; however, many like at least a little colour added, which we can safely do that with a transparent or semi transparent.
Solid coloured decks are the hardest to maintain so we recommend clear coating the finish to preserve the colour. This is fussy to do as it should be done while still tacky for best adhesion and achieve a longer lasting finish. Then maintenance of the clearcoat is easier than maintaining colored stain.
Railings and spindles can also be maintained to last longer and upon viewing, I can make suggestions best suited to to your needs. The deck is an extension of your home and the look should be combined so it is just that.
Steps need to be anti-slip for safety reasons and we have several options for this depending on your use and preferred look.
I cannot give it all away here but but suffice it to say that you or the previous owner spent a lot of money to build a deck, now how to protect the investment takes some knowledge! Use us to your advantage by requesting a free estimate for how to best finish your deck.
